Are NP Corn Flakes Non-GMO?

Are NP Corn Flakes Non-GMO? Our (gluten-free) family is working toward being non-GMO, and we like the Eco Pac Fruit Juice Sweetened Corn Flakes. We also expected that with NP’s dedication to non-GMO products we had a winner. So why don’t we see the Non-GMO Project label on the bag? Thanks for an otherwise excellent product!

Hi Marty - Thanks for getting in touch and for asking us your question. I’m glad to hear you’re taking your family’s health seriously and making this important switch to Non-GMO foods - great! I’m happy to share that this product is Non-GMO Project verified, and the new packaging will bear the Non-GMO Project logo on it. We thank you for your patience as we transition all of our packaging to our new look and hope that the new packaging will more clearly indicate product information to our customers. Take care, Itziar

When in the store the topic

When in the store the topic of your cereal’s new re-sealable bag has come up now on a dozen occasions. Unfortunately, upon explaining to even the employees that “that’s the extent of it that little yellow piece of tape/sticker stuck to the bag,” even the employees felt that your entirely credibility as a company was lost, as in, “if that’s their idea of a re-sealable bag then what’s their idea of organic or gluten-free.” We assumed whoever came up with that idea at Nature’s Path had to have been “toasting the Hemp” for your cereal far too often. Some other ideas just as honest might be: 100% Natural Organic Chemical-Free Environmentally-Friendly UV Protection (supply a piece of cardboard to hold up to the sun), 100% Natural Organic Chemical-Free Environmentally-Friendly Guaranteed Bug Killer (supply two blocks of wood, place insect on block A and hit with block B), Automobile Repair Kit (supply a piece of duct tape) Basically, you went backward way backward! You lost ground in customer confidence and trust with this one – big mistake! Stupid really…really stupid! Fire the Hemp toaster and hire an honest marketing person instead.

Thank you for taking the time

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts John. At Nature’s Path our vision is to be a trusted name for quality organic foods in every home; socially responsible, environmentally sustainable and financially viable. Please understand that while we provide quality organic foods, we have always been concerned about our packaging. You may love the resealable zippers on packages, but these aren’t recyclable, therefore, we won’t use them until they are. The reusable sticker is used to hold the bag closed after you roll the top of the bag down. We are looking into making the sticker larger and including clearer instructions on the next batch of bags we make. All the best John, Jamie, Nature’s Path Team

Hi Linda and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. We’ve actually never packaged this cereal in a 900 g bag in the past. Our Millet Rice Flakes are packaged in a 907 g bag though, so this could cause confusion. We also have 2 new Eco-Pac flavors coming out this year in the 907 g bag. All the best, Jamie, Nature’s Path Team

Hi there Antoine and thanks

Hi there Antoine and thanks for sharing your concerns with us. Nature’s Path products are not fried or cooked in oil. If you have any specific questions about how a certain product is made, then please email cereal@naturespath.com and they’ll be able to answer your question for you. All the best, Jamie, Nature’s Path Team

I bought bags of Heritage Os

I bought bags of Heritage Os and flakes and the bag has a sticker that claims it is a “New Resealable Bag.” However, the bag has no design change that I can detect - no ziplock or zipper sealer. Is folding down the top and holding it in place with the sticker itself the way in which the bag is now resealable?

Thank you so much for writing

Thank you so much for writing in to us Lisa. Yes, you are correct. The reason we created the sticker is because the zip closures were not recyclable. We are currently looking into ways of making the sticker larger and including clearer instructions on the next batch of bags we make. Take care Lisa, Jamie, Nature’s Path Team

Having read the package, I noticed that it says “Made in Canada from domestic and imported ingredients”. What country do the imported ingredients come from, and what are they? I searched QAI’s site, but was unable to find the information I was looking for.

Hi Spencer, thanks so much for taking the time to write in to us. Nature’s Path Foods purchases from United States and Canadian Suppliers and internationally from recognized third-party certified organic suppliers. In this product, the organic corn meal and organic grape and/or pear juice concentrate from either Canada or the US, and the sea salt is from the US. I hope this helps! Thanks again for your time, take care, Jamie, Nature’s Path Team

About your resealable bags:

About your resealable bags: First, I admire your Eco Pacs. (I especially like what’s inside them! I’m celiac, so eat gluten free.) Your new yellow Resealable stickers, however, are a waste of your manufacturing time and money. They don’t work very well. I have, every single time, resorted to my good old clips to “re-seal” those bags. Please continue the wonderful job you do with all else, and scratch the sticker idea. — Thanks for your part in keeping me healthy!

Hi Larry. I can assure you that this is not a marketing scam. In our Fruit Juice Sweetened Corn Flakes the organic corn meal and organic grape and/or pear juice concentrate from either Canada or the US, and the sea salt is from the US. Karen- We have heard the stickers are not working well after about ten sticks. Of course this is not performing to our standards so we’re looking for an eco friendly solution. In fact, the reason we created the sticker in the first place is because the zip closure is not recyclable. In the meantime, we’d like to somehow make you feel a little better about this inconvenience. Can we send you some Nature’s Path cereal bag clips until we get it fixed? Maria from Nature’s Path

I love Nature’s Path cereals,

I love Nature’s Path cereals, especially the Mesa Sunrise. However, I’ve noticed that you downsized your packaging (which is a good thing), but you also downsized the AMOUNT of cereal in the packaging - all without a price reduction!!! To me and I’m sure many other consumers, this can be taken as being rather sneaky and coniving. Instead of quietly doing this, why not just raise the price of the product? I’m sure you are going to say that consumers would rather not see a price increase, and that’s true, but its much better than feeling “ripped off”. Shame on you….

Hi Deborah, We did not reduce

Hi Deborah, We did not reduce the amount of cereal in our packages. I’d be more than happy to send you packaging samples from before and after our packaging material reduction so you can see that the net weights are exactly the same. We have reduced the amount of recyclable plastic used (we call this the Eco Pac outer) making the package look smaller. I can assure you that we would never make a change like that without making sure our customers were well aware. Is it possible that you received a package that was not filled properly? Please contact me directly at 604 248 8856 so we can make this right. Maria, from Nature’s Path

How do we reseal the bag?

How do we reseal the bag? My daughter has been buying your cereals in the Eco Pac bags for some time — and now my grandson is a fan. However, neither she nor I can find any difference between the older packaging and the “new” version — with the sticker advertising “New Resealable Bag”. The sticker seems to be the only change. We don’t keep the old bags, so there’s no way to compare; we’re relying on memory. To us, “resealable” suggests something like a zip-lock bag top… or a clip of some kind. She even tried using the sticker to reseal the bag. What are we missing? What’s the secret to resealing?

Hi Nelson - Our apologies.

Hi Nelson - Our apologies. There is no secret to resealing our Eco Pacs. Although we tested the new resalable sticker (in cold, warm and everything in between weather) we hear its losing its stickiness after ten applications (see above post to Karen). We’re trying to get it fixed in a way that considers the environment. Until then we’d like to send you some Nature’s Path cereal bag clips. If you’d like to do that, feel free to contact me directly at 604 248 8856. Maria from Nature’s Path

Sugar Levels in NP Cereals

Sugar Levels in NP Cereals … I love most of the Natures Path cereals and was pleasantly surprised, almost shocked to discover some of the products on the shelves even 4 years ago in Cebu, Philippines (a considerably smaller city than Manila). I do however find particularly the granolas to be too sweet. I love the taste - my fav is the Flax Plus w/ pumpkin. I also like the Hemp Plus granola. What i do is mix your granola with a larger portion of lower sugar, less sweet products like Heritage, Multigrain Oatbran, Millet Rice Flakes. Sometimes i add in Honey’d Corn Flakes, which i think are the best tasting corn flakes i’ve ever come across. They truly taste like corn! How surprising …and sad that the other brands don’t.

Hi Rusti - Yes, for a family

Hi Rusti - Yes, for a family run, independent company our distribution is far reaching. Your solution to reduce the sugar by blending Flax Plus Pumpkin granola with other cereal types is a great one. We hear what you’re saying about the sweetness levels. Getting the sweetness just right is a constant struggle for our R&D teams. Have you tried our Agave Plus Granola? Your comment about Honey’d Corn Flakes made me giggle. That’s the beauty of making certified organic cereals. Because we do not use synthetic pesticides or herbicides, artificial preservatives, colors or additives, genetically engineered seeds or ingredients, the cereals actually come out tasting like the grains that went into them. Imagine that! Thanks for the suggestion. Maria from Nature’s Path

What does organic even mean ?

Hello Anon- When food is

Hello Anon- When food is certified organic it means that it’s made in a way that complies with organic standards set by our government (USDA in America, COR in Canada). In fact, organic inspectors visit our farms and manufacturing plants to make sure we’re living up to their strict standards. On the contrary, when food manufacturers define food as natural it can mean anything. In other words, the natural designation is not regulated or inspected by a third party like organic is. Under organic production we DO NOT use synthetic pesticides or herbicides, we DO NOT use artificial preservatives or additives, we DO NOT use genetically engineered seeds or ingredients or irradiation (exposure to radiation). It goes beyond that though. Organic food production is good for the soil because it enriches drought resistant soil, it creates less soil erosion, less groundwater pollution and it improves farm biodiversity. Here are some more reasons to support organic food production: • Organic farm practices prevent farmers from being exposed to chemicals. • It keeps harmful pesticides and other toxins off your plate. • It protects water quality because organic farming does not pollute water resources with pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers. • It saves energy and resources. • It supports local family growers. Independent farmers are personally invested in the sustainability of their land. • It provides farmers with a living wage, supports responsible development, and preserves open spaces. We’re glad you asked! Maria, from Nature’s Path
